Meredith Hat

Sometimes you just need another hat. When I realized that I didn’t have a warm, easy-to-wear hat that was pretty enough to wear with my nice coat, I took it as a challenge. The resulting design – Meredith – meets all of these requirements and more. It fits warm and close like a traditional beanie, with a dainty contrasting band and a decorative button to add some individual splash.

Add to that an unusual method of construction and a simple but beautifully textured stitch pattern, and you have a hat that’s as fun to make as it is to wear. (It’s my new favorite!)

Finishing …

Sew band securely around hat over plain sc portion of crown, being certain that rounded end of band overlaps the flat end. (Be careful not to constrict crown of hat when attaching band.) Sew button to hat just to the side of the overlap, to imitate a closure.

Weave in ends. Wash and block as needed.
