This is a very easy cup cozy that can be made in under an hour. The cup cozy should fit a wide variety of cups and does have a little bit of stretch to it allowing it to fit most cup sizes. These cozies are is great as gifts for teachers, apartment office staff, co-workers, family …. well, just about anyone! Just make sure you use 100% cotton so it absorbs the condensation on the outside of the cup/mug and dries quickly.

Working
  • Worked in the round. Do not increase more than once per round.
  • For smaller cups, use a smaller hk and make your beg ch/fsc long enough to go around the lower section of the cup.
  • One ball of yarn is enough for three cup cozies and a fourth one through the ninth round. To get four full cozies out of a ball, you can do one of the following:
    • Leave off the edging on all cozies
    • Work rounds 1 through 8, then round 10, and finally, the edging on all cozies
    • Make 3 cozies following #2 above and 1 cozy following full pattern
    • Make 2 cozies following #2 above and 2 cozies following full pattern

Cup Cozy
Round 1 Ch 32, join with sc making sure not to twist the ch, pm in sc just made, sc in ea ch around.orFsc 32, join with sl st in side of fsc row making sure not to twist the ch, ch 1, sc in first fsc of round, pm in sc just made, sc in ea fsc around.
Round 2 Sc in marked st, move marker up, sc in ea sc around. For ea round, move the marker up to the first sc of ea round. (32 sc)
Round 3 Sc in first six sc of round, 2 sc in next sc, pm in second sc, sc in ea sc around to first marked st. (33 sc)
Round 4 Sc in ea sc to second marked st (the increase st), sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc, move second marker to second sc, sc in ea sc around to first marked st. (34 sc)
Rounds 5-6 Rep round 4, moving the markers up as you go. (36 sc at end of round 6)
Round 7 Rep round 3, moving the markers up as you go. (37 sc)
Rounds 8-9 Rep round 5, moving the markers up as you go. (39 sc at end of round 9)
Round 10 Sc in ea sc around to first marked st, sl st in next 2 sc, pm in last sl st. (39 sc)
Reverse Slip Stitch Edging
Round 11 Ch 1, sk both sl sts and make a reverse sl st into the next sc to the right of the hk, continue making a reverse sl st into ea sc around to the marked sl st, reverse sl st in marked st. Join to first reverse sl st with an invisible join.
Finishing …
If round 1 was made with an fsc, join the bottom of the round. Weave in ends. Add a button to the front if wanted.
