The 2009 Flamies!

This year marks the first crochet awards sponsored by the Crochet Liberation Front, The Flamies. The name of the awards is from an award given throughout the year on the CLF forum, The Flaming Crochet Hook of Justice, which is given to someone “who represents the ideals of the Crochet Liberation Front” or “who have gone out of their way to bring crochet to the forefront, or stand up for the craft in general.”

A list of the categories and nominees, along with a link to the voting booth, are provided at the CLF Blog – Hook the Vote! 2009 Crochet Awards and Crochet Uncut is one of the nominees for “Best Online Crochet Magazine 2008,” so go vote! I’m currently working on the awards using several 3D software programs and they’re pretty sweet if I say so myself. Each winner will receive a copy of the award with their name “engraved” on the trophy and I’ll also be offering a printed version of the awards (just to the winners, sorry folks) for the cost of printing and shipping.

Awards will be presented on March 16th on the Getty Loopy podcast with Mary Beth Temple and published on the CLF blog and here once they are available. I’ll be adding the winners to this article as soon as I can, so check back on the 16th to see who made off with the goods.

March 16, 2009 – Well, I wasn’t able to make the awards show due to brakes that had to be replaced immediately but all who were there say it went splendidly even with a few glitches. Laurie Wheeler has listed all the winners on the CLF blog but I’ll go ahead and add them here as promised.

Congratulations to all the winners and for a peek at the awards, take a look at my website – 2009 “Flamies” Graphic Awards. Please don’t copy the awards and put them on your sites unless it is one you won. I’ll be offering the graphics in larger sizes to the winners, suitable for framing, once I figure out how much it will cost to print them out. If you’d like to read a little about how I made the award graphics, you can read about it on my blog, Dangling by a Painted Thread.
