NaturallyCaron Country is a blend of acrylic and wool which provides both the drape and shine of acrylic with the warmth of wool. I enjoyed working with this yarn because of the softness but found that my favorite Susan Bates hooks would split the strands since the yarn is loosely plied. As a result, I’d recommend using a Boye or blunt bamboo hook when working with this yarn. When worked as lace, the piece will have a nice drape while not being too bulky. Of course, as a more solid fabric, the drape will be less so but still comfortable and soft. With Fall here and Winter coming in fast (along with having snow already here in Utah), I can see a warm shrug or top in my near future.
Country is not as soft as the Spa yarn but that is to be expected with a thicker yarn that uses wool (where Spa uses bamboo).
Country is available in 24 colors covering a nice “country” color palette, none of them being too light or too bright. The colors shown in the image below are: Vicuna, Foliage, Plum Pudding, and Gilded Age. See the “Autumn Splendor Wrap” pattern in this issue designed especially for this yarn.
